Today Reform California Chairman Carl DeMaio issued the following statement on Governor Gavin Newsom touting a new “Executive Order” on the state’s growing homelessness crisis:
“As the November election approaches, Gavin Newsom knows he has failed on homelessness and knows voters are clamoring for action to clean up our streets.
Gavin Newsom uses his meaningless executive orders to drive fake news coverage and pretend he is solving a problem. Unfortunately, not a single virtue-signaling word in today’s order reflects a change in Gavin Newsom’s fatally-flawed approach to homelessness that has created this crisis we face today.
I urge the media and the public to carefully read the actual text of Newsom’s executive order – because if they do, they will find it is nothing but bureaucratic nonsense masquerading as bold action and policy change. Californians deserve better than media stunts with no impact on problems we face.
The sad reality is Gavin Newsom still backs “Housing First” policies that expressly prohibit local government and non-profits from using drug treatment and mental health mandates to get to the root cause of homelessness. Until we abandon Newsom’s failed homelessness policies, this crisis will just get worse. We have a PRETENDER for Governor when we really need a PROBLEM SOLVER.” –Carl DeMaio, Chairman of Reform California
