Reform California and its founder Carl DeMaio have a dream – of restoring political balance in a state that has been in the grip of one-party Democratic control for years. With Election Day 2024 right around the corner, Reform California is launching an ambitious final 108-hour campaign push to win key races.
DeMaio says he launched Reform California because he was “fed up and frustrated with the failure and inability of the California Republican Party and establishment career politicians who were content to surrender rather than fight.”
“While so many are fleeing this state, we’re urging people to stay and fight – and we’re giving them a plan and tools to do just that particularly in the crucial final 108 hours of this pivotal election,” DeMaio says.
Reform California’s Plain English Voter Guide
The centerpiece of Reform California’s plan is its “Plain English” Voter guide it publishes statewide and in each major region.
“Voters know that politicians are using false and misleading titles on ballot measures to trick voters and steal races,” DeMaio notes.
Reform California’s Voter Guide gives an easy-to-understand description of all state propositions and reveals 470+ local tax hikes hidden on the ballot. The guide also makes endorsements in all candidate races from top of ticket to state legislature to judges and school board races.
Hand-Written Letters to Target Voters
Since June, Reform California has had thousands of volunteers preparing two waves of hand-written letters with local voter guides inserted inside. A total of 2.5 million voter guides have been mailed out through this program statewide in two waves – one for early voters when ballots first arrived in the mail and one wave for late voters in the final 108 hours.
Door-to-Door Canvassing
Reform California recruits volunteers and pays high school and college students to canvass target neighborhoods with the voter guides. The program is focused on persuading independent and conservative Democrat voters and turnout low-propensity Republican voters.
Texts and Calls
In the final 108 hours, Reform California is working to achieve an ambitious goal of sending over 5 million text messages for this cycle to target voters – particularly focusing on defeating costly and unfair tax hikes.
How much impact is the Reform California effort making? One key indicator is how many voters are actually reviewing and using the Reform California Voter Guide.
Reform California’s Voter Guide has become one of the leading guides in the state with more than 268,000 unique users in the Primary election – with the vast majority of those users in target districts.

While Reform California’s efforts are impressive, will it be enough? DeMaio says in time yes.
“We fully expect to win more than we lose in 2024 – but we also know that taking back California will be a long-term effort and nothing changes over night or in one election cycle,” DeMaio says.
“But we refuse to give up and flee – we’re staying and fighting!”
