California is a blue state that gives Democrats all kinds of built-in advantages. But Carl DeMaio and Reform California say Republicans have 10 key fights they can actually win in 2024 – if they work hard and focus their limited resources on them.
“Sure California is tough for us, but we see 10 highly consequential fights that we can actually win on in 2024 – but to win our side needs to be disciplined and focused enough to channel resources on these key fights,” says Carl DeMaio, Chairman of Reform California.
Here’s the list of the top 10 fights DeMaio thinks can be won in 2024:
1. Prop 5: Save Prop 13 and Block Tax Hikes
Democrats put Prop 5 on the ballot to gut Prop 13 and make it easier to raise taxes by lowering the threshold of tax approvals from two-thirds to a mere 55% of the vote. Polling shows the race is tied. Defeating Prop 5 would send a powerful message that voters of all parties like Prop 13 and don’t want more tax hikes.
2. Prop 36: Make Crime Illegal Again
Prop 36 will reverse the bad Prop 47 policies that benefit criminals and give police and prosecutors the tools they need to protect us. Polling shows voters will overwhelmingly pass the measure, but Democrats are gearing up a massive misinformation campaign to kill it.
3. Props 2 & 4: Bonds for Boondoggles
Props 2 and 4 max out the state’s credit card by borrowing $20 billion at high interest rates – with no associated payoff. Democrats claim the funds go to schools (Prop 2) and water/fire (Prop 4) but it is nothing more than a budget bailout to allow politicians to continue their wasteful spending. Polls show voters evenly divided on the measures. Defeating both will send a message that voters are not in favor of reckless spending and more debt.
4. Prop 33: Rental Control
If Prop 33 passes, rent control will choke supply of rental units and lead to a massive price spike. Voters already rejected two previous attempts to pass Prop 33 – so this is a winnable race. Rejecting bad rent control mandates a third time hopefully kills this idea long-term.
5. Defeat 470+ Local Tax Hikes
Statewide polling shows voters are overwhelmingly opposed to any tax hikes at this time – especially as inflation continues to hammer working families. Unfortunately, local politicians have put over 470 local tax hikes on the ballot statewide – mainly sales tax and property tax hikes. These measures also are deceptively worded – but if voters realize it is a tax hike, they will vote it down.
6. Defend 5 US House Seats
In 2022, California flipped and held enough House seats to give Republicans the Majority in the US Congress. Now that Majority is under attack and California MUST win 5 highly competitive House races: John Duarte and Kevin Kiley in Central Valley, Michele Steele in Orange County, Ken Calvert in Riverside, and Mike Garcia in Los Angeles. All 5 races are complete toss-ups.
7. Flip a House Seat with Scott Baugh
The best chance to pick up a House seat and ad to the Republican Majority in Congress is to flip CD-47 in Orange County with Scott Baugh.
8. Kristie Bruce Lane for State Assembly – District 76
While Republicans have 12 truly winnable pickup seats in the Assembly that can break the Democrats’ super-majority, the best chance to flip an Assembly seat is Kristie Bruce Lane in San Diego county.
9. Jeff Gonzalez for State Assembly – District 36
The second-best chance to flip an Assembly seat is Jeff Gonzalez in Imperial and Riverside counties. Even better, this Democrat-held seat is a majority-Latino district and would send a strong message that Latinos are in play in California long-term!
10. Carl DeMaio for State Assembly – District 75
This race is for a Republican Assembly district, but the Sacramento Swamp (Democrats, lobbyists, union bosses, and RINO Republicans) hate the frontrunner Carl DeMaio because of his no-BS approach to fighting to take back California form the far-Left. They are spending millions to defeat him because they fear he will actually be effective in changing the dynamics within the CA GOP and within Sacramento. DeMaio’s win in this seat would be the ultimate repudiation of the corrupt Sacramento Swamp.
