Watch: Town Hall with Carl DeMaio on Reform California’s 2021 Strategic Initiatives

Reform California scored many wins in the 2020 election (defeating tax hikes like Prop 15 and local tax hike/bond measures as well as flipping several legislative seats). Our 2021 plans build on those successes!

Among the initiatives discussed in this virtual Town Hall:

• Election Integrity Initiative: Making sure we stop fraudulent practices that weaken the security of our electoral process.
• Defeat Gavin Newsom: Update on the Recall signature drive and our comprehensive efforts to build the case for stopping Gavin Newsom’s extreme agenda and electing a new common-sense Governor ASAP
• Blocking Tax Hikes: As state and local politicians look to fill budget holes, Reform California has prepared a rapid response program to stop any tax hike proposals.
• Electing Reform Leaders: Redistricting is underway statewide and we must ensure fair and reasonable districts are drawn – and we must recruit, train and support solid candidates for office in 2021 and 2022

Carl DeMaio blasts San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and City Council for accepting a MASSIVE PAY HIKE during Covid-19 lockdowns!

Carl DeMaio blasts San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and City Council for accepting a MASSIVE PAY HIKE during Covid-19 lockdowns!

Carl DeMaio is slamming San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and members of the San Diego City Council for accepting massive pay hikes starting December 10, 2020 – hikes in pay that come as these same politicians impose draconian lockdowns on struggling small businesses that are destroying jobs.

In a recent appearance on KUSI TV, DeMaio slammed all of our local politicians for “taking massive pay raises on day one in office, in the middle of an economic downturn and pandemic.” Continuing, “Todd Gloria is going to get a mayoral salary that is double what Kevin Faulconer earned. The salary is going to go from about $100,000 to over $200,000 today alone. And the city councilmember salaries will be increased from $75,000, to over $125,000 each.”

DeMaio said the politicians who accept these increases is “shameful,” explaining, “as small businesses are closing their doors, as working families are unemployed, the idea that our politicians are taking pay raises at the same time? No. They have to lead by example and turn down those pay raises until we get through this rough patch.”

Concluding that none of the newly elected politicians are required to accept these salary increases.

Carl DeMaio Slams Local Politicians for Proposing Costly Tax Hikes During Pandemic; Urge “NO” Votes on All Local Tax and Bond Measures

In the midst of a severe economic downturn and pandemic, local politicians in San Diego county are asking struggling taxpayers for even more money by filling November’s local election ballot with 13 separate tax hike measures. Local politicians hope that a crowded ballot combined with no funded and organized opposition campaign may result in their favored tax hike passing. Not this year. A coalition of activists, elected leaders, and taxpayer advocates led by Reform California today will hold a press conference to announce a unified campaign to defeat all 13 local tax measures. The development of an organized opposition campaign to these tax hikes increases the likelihood they will be defeated.

Local Bond Measures: $2.494 Billion

“At a time when San Diego families are already struggling because of the economic downturn and the pandemic, local politicians should be ashamed that they filled up San Diego county’s election ballot with tax hikes and more debt. These same politicians were hoping no opposition campaign would be launched against their tax hike, but we’re here to make it clear that we will fight every tax hike and debt proposal on the San Diego county local ballot. By voting NO on all of these flawed and costly measures, voters can tell San Diego County politicians loudly that we won’t support their out-of-control and out-of-touch spending.” – Carl DeMaio, Chairman, Reform California
